Marathon Unveils New Story Trailer and Confirms Final Release Date Ahead of Open Beta

Tau Ceti IV is on fire, and the only remedy is some slick PvEvP extraction gunplay. That’s the energy from a newly leaked trailer for Marathon that hit Xbox ahead of schedule. While efforts are underway to take the footage down, screenshots revealing a March 5, 2026 release date have already made their rounds online.

The latest story trailer showcases a thrilling sizzle reel packed with previously unseen gameplay, highlighting the sci-fi multiplayer shooter’s diverse maps, runners, and weaponry. The stunning art style that Bungie is known for is prominently featured. However, what casual gamers will likely find most exciting is the hint at an early March launch.

After a delay in 2025, the game had only hinted at a vague March release window. This new information seems to confirm an early arrival, giving Sony’s latest live-service title a few weeks to shine before the fiscal year wraps up. According to reports, the trailer and release date are spot on, with Bungie set to make an official announcement this week.

Fans are buzzing with speculation that Bungie might host at least one round of open beta tests before the game drops. If that’s the case, it’s looking likely we could see those tests before the end of February. This would be the last opportunity for players to experience the revamped shooter for free before it launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for a $40 price tag.

Update: 1/29/2025, 11:04 a.m. ET: Bungie has officially released the trailer and confirmed an impressive voice cast:
