Nia DaCosta remains supportive of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios despite The Marvels’ disappointing performance, while also safeguarding a key spoiler from the Avengers: Doomsday set.
Despite earlier reports hinting at tension on the set of The Marvels, director Nia DaCosta has made it clear that she has no hard feelings towards Marvel Studios or its president, Kevin Feige.
“It’s amusing because the way it was reported made it seem very dramatic,” DaCosta shared, likely referencing a 2023 report that raised eyebrows over extensive reshoots and her simultaneous work on another project during pre-production. “But honestly, I really love Kevin Feige, and we all get along.”
In fact, DaCosta has kept one of Marvel’s biggest secrets under wraps for years: Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers. She was even on set for the filming of the moment that would later appear in the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday.
Addressing the earlier report, DaCosta explained that the film’s release date was shifted multiple times, turning what was supposed to be a two-year project into a three-and-a-half-year journey.
Despite her dedication, The Marvels, which features Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel in a cosmic crossover, ended up being the lowest-grossing film in the MCU, earning just over $200 million at the box office.
Since then, DaCosta has received critical acclaim for her works, Hedda and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
Looking ahead, the MCU is set to introduce Wonder Man, a series that humorously tackles superhero fatigue, featuring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as an actor auditioning for the lead role in a Wonder Man movie—only to find himself gaining superpowers.
