Legendary composer behind Dune and The Dark Knight to create music for Harry Potter TV series.
The highly anticipated Harry Potter reboot TV series has been in production for six months, but details have been scarce since filming began. However, we now know who will be crafting the musical score: HBO has announced that Hans Zimmer and the Bleeding Fingers music collective will be responsible for the show’s soundtrack.
Zimmer is renowned for his work on numerous iconic films, including Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, True Romance, Days of Thunder, and the original score for The Lion King. He takes on a role previously filled by notable composers such as John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat in the Potter franchise.
“The musical legacy of Harry Potter is a touchpoint for composers everywhere, and we are humbled to join such a remarkable team on a project of this magnitude,” Zimmer, along with Bleeding Fingers’ Kara Talve and Anže Rozman, stated. “The responsibility is something we do not take lightly. Magic is all around us, often just beyond reach, but as in the world of Harry Potter, you simply must look for it. With this score, we hope to bring audiences that little bit closer to it while honoring what has come before.”
Bleeding Fingers, co-founded by Zimmer, has received Grammy nominations for its work in film and television, with a significant portion of their projects focused on scoring documentaries. Talve also serves as the principal composer for The Simpsons, a role she has held since 2022.
The HBO Max Harry Potter series will reboot the beloved story with a new cast portraying the characters from the films. Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, originally played by Daniel Radcliffe, alongside a stellar cast that includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials, The Man in the High Castle) is the showrunner, with Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones) directing. Additionally, Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling is closely involved as an executive producer.
Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the Harry Potter series on HBO and HBO Max, as it is set to premiere sometime in 2027.
