“New Handheld Gaming PC from Ayaneo Promises High Performance, but Premium Pricing Concerns Remain”
Ayaneo is gearing up for a new chapter in 2026, unveiling a fresh portable PC brand to compete in the gaming handheld arena. While the original name isn’t being completely retired, the company is introducing a “Konkr” sub-brand, which will feature a Windows AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 model equipped with an OLED display.
During a recent product showcase, Ayaneo introduced the Konkr Fit, a 7-inch handheld gaming PC that steps away from the main brand name. The company claims this new line aims to deliver “high performance and great value,” but early specs indicate it may come with a price tag higher than the Steam Deck OLED.
This isn’t too surprising, given that it will be powered by the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 chipset, feature an OLED screen, and include an 80Wh battery. Impressively compact, the device packs more power than the ROG Xbox Ally X, with CEO Arthur Zang demonstrating its portability by easily holding it in one hand during the presentation.
While Ayaneo is keeping detailed specifications under wraps for now, some enticing features have been hinted at, such as adjustable triggers and back buttons reminiscent of the Lenovo Legion Go S. Additionally, it appears there will be multiple USB-C ports on the top, which could eliminate the need for a Steam Deck dock for TV connectivity.
It’s clear that Ayaneo is positioning itself as a premium handheld gaming PC manufacturer. This suggests that its Windows devices will likely avoid direct price competition with Valve, aligning with the company’s established business model and customer base. However, Konkr could potentially disrupt the $1,000 market by offering competitive specs at a lower price than brands like Asus, Lenovo, and MSI.
That said, Ayaneo isn’t just focusing on high-end devices. The brand remains active in the retro handheld space, with the Pocket DS aimed at Nintendo DS enthusiasts and smaller models like the 4:3 Pocket S Mini targeting the emulation community. There’s even a 6-inch Konkr Pocket Fit featuring a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for those seeking a more powerful option.
It’s important to note that Ayaneo handheld gaming PCs are still in the mix, with the Next II currently being released. The introduction of the Konkr name seems to be a strategic move to position the brand as a diverse gaming hardware manufacturer rather than solely a high-end portable maker, especially as it expands into mini PCs and is developing a Sony Xperia-inspired Pocket PLAY smartphone.
While I remain hopeful for a sub-$500 handheld to emerge, even if 2026 isn’t the year for it, there’s potential for Konkr to introduce more direct competition to Valve’s OLED lineup in the future. This could ignite much-needed mid-range competition among other Windows-focused brands.
