Hytale Introduces Crossplay with Minecraft, Thanks to a Talented 15-Year-Old Modder’s Skills

Hytale just kicked off its early access phase last week, and modders are already diving into some impressive creations. One standout modder, known for getting Windows 95, Doom, and even Hytale itself running within Hytale, has pulled off something even more remarkable: crossplay between Minecraft and Hytale.

While Hypixel started out with modded Minecraft servers, Hytale is a fresh title that embraces the block-building sandbox genre. The idea of crossplay between these two games feels as outlandish as mixing Call of Duty with Battlefield or World of Warcraft with Final Fantasy 14.

Enter iamcxv7, a 15-year-old music and programming enthusiast from Bangladesh, who has demonstrated crossplay functionality that makes it seem like Minecraft and Hytale were designed to work together. Clips shared on social media show players from both games interacting in the same world, jumping around and placing blocks that appear in real-time across both platforms. The time of day syncs perfectly, and cross-game text chat is operational.

So, how does this seemingly magical feat work? “It’s all just Packet Trickery,” iamcxv7 explains. “You could say I am running a Minecraft Server in the Hytale JVM, using the Coordinate System of the Hytale World (since they’re the same). I take a Snapshot of the Hytale World, reconstruct it, and then send it to the Client via Packets.”

It’s important to note that this is still a work in progress, described by iamcxv7 as “more of a proof of concept” with “no end goal for now.” However, with plenty of time and energy on his hands, the potential for this mod is exciting.

If you’re still figuring out how to team up with friends in Hytale and explore their worlds, you’re not alone.
