Halo: Campaign Evolved Launches on PS5 to Foster a Thriving Community, Say Developers

Just as Sonic the Hedgehog made his way onto Nintendo consoles, Master Chief is set to jump onto PlayStation with Halo: Campaign Evolved, a fresh top-down remake of the beloved FPS classic. Bringing the face of Xbox to the PS5 is a daring move, aimed at uniting fans of the franchise and ushering in a new chapter.

In an exclusive chat, two leads from Halo Studios (formerly known as 343 Industries) shared their insights on why this iconic shooter is making its debut on a Sony platform. “We hope to bring along the series veterans who have been with us for the past 25 years on Xbox and PC, allowing them to play alongside a new generation,” said Damon Conn, executive producer of Halo: Campaign Evolved.

He added, “Maybe there are players who have never experienced Halo because they’ve always been on Sony systems, or perhaps they missed it or switched consoles at some point and want to reconnect.”

Conn acknowledges that “the original is a masterpiece,” emphasizing that the goal isn’t to replace it but to create something that complements Combat Evolved. The game will feature some tweaks and quality-of-life enhancements, including four-player cross-platform co-op, enabling players to enjoy the story together, no matter their platform.

“Halo is best experienced with a large, vibrant community,” noted Max Szlagor, creative director on Campaign Evolved. Conn further stated, “We’re able to honor the Halo legacy on PlayStation. It’s paving the way to expand our Halo universe, and that’s how we see it.”

Halo: Campaign Evolved arrives nearly five years after the last new entry, Halo Infinite, which launched in 2021. Since then, the only significant release has been Paramount’s ill-fated Halo TV show, but there are reportedly multiple games in development. If all goes well, there will be plenty more Spartans ready to dive into the action once this title drops.
