Disney Lorcana’s Winterspell expansion introduces its first-ever Darkwing Duck cards.

2026 is shaping up to be a thrilling year for Disney Lorcana, building on the excitement since its launch in 2023. The Core Constructed format is gaining momentum with each new set, and fans are eagerly anticipating the long-awaited addition of Pixar characters to the game.

However, one iconic character has been notably absent. While Disney Channel favorites have made their mark in Lorcana, with Gargoyles being the latest addition from last year’s Whispers In The Well, the beloved Darkwing Duck and his arch-nemesis Negaduck are finally set to join the fray in the upcoming Winterspell set.

Negaduck, the villain from an alternate reality, is making his debut as a new Villain in Lorcana. Although his standard cost of five ink for a 6/5 stat line might seem high, his Floodborn ability allows him to shift onto another Negaduck for just three ink, making him a more enticing option.

This ability, which lets him drain one of your opponent’s lore whenever he challenges, has appeared before, but it will be interesting to see how Negaduck fits into the current meta. Ruby ink cards have struggled recently, so if Winterspell provides the boost ruby needs to rival the popular amethyst/steel decks, Negaduck could play a significant role in slowing down opponents.

This card also hints that Negaduck won’t be a one-time character. Floodborns need targets with the same name to shift onto, so we can expect to see this mischievous villain pop up multiple times throughout the set.

Now, let’s talk about the main man himself. Darkwing Duck – Cool Under Pressure is one of the legendary rarity cards in Winterspell, marking a significant first for Lorcana.

Not only is this Darkwing’s debut, but it also introduces the shift ability on a non-Floodborn card, allowing you to play it on top of another Darkwing Duck for less ink. It would be fantastic to see his alter ego, Drake Mallard, shift into Darkwing, but we can at least anticipate a few more Darkwing Duck cards in the set.

Even without that, Darkwing Duck brings a wealth of valuable abilities to the table. His Take That! ability lets you deal two damage to your opponent’s characters, provided you can banish items during your turn to activate it. Fortunately, cards like Benja – Guardian of the Dragon Gem and Pluto – Steel Champion are popular enough to make including Darkwing Duck in steel/amber decks a worthwhile strategy.

What really makes Darkwing Duck exciting is his Evildoers Beware! ability, which allows him to challenge Villains even when they’re ready. This ability has been seen before, particularly in Steel, but with his impressive 6/8 stat line, Darkwing Duck stands out as the most powerful character to wield it.

The current meta is filled with Villains. Madam Mim has been a persistent threat, and Demona from Whispers in the Well has also made a splash. Other heavy hitters like Hades, Namari, Ursula, and Captain Hook are prevalent in top decks, highlighting Darkwing Duck’s potential impact on the game.

The introduction of Darkwing Duck and Negaduck is a perfect way to kick off an exciting year for Lorcana. They represent the last major characters from the Saturday Morning lineup before Pixar characters join the game later this year, and Darkwing could easily become a staple in the Winterspell meta.

The prerelease for Winterspell kicks off on February 13, with the full release set for February 20.
