Fortnite Welcomes Dungeons & Dragons as Wizards of the Coast Explores Player Connections
Dungeons & Dragons making its way into Fortnite was only a matter of time. This legendary tabletop RPG has maintained its popularity since the 1970s and is currently enjoying a resurgence, largely thanks to its prominent role in the storytelling of a hit Netflix series. Meanwhile, Fortnite has a knack for integrating anything trending, from famous athletes to beloved characters from TV and movies, and even viral memes—yes, there’s an emote for that “6-7” meme.
Now, Dungeons & Dragons has launched a series of creative islands in Fortnite, marking just the start of what Wizards of the Coast has in store.
Announced recently, this collaboration stems from a partnership between Wizards and community creators Chartis and Teravision Games, known for their fan-made games like Zombie: Escape Tag and Havoc Hotel.
Unlike the recent Disney-themed islands, such as Percy Jackson: Siege of Monsters, these new experiences were crafted by community creators rather than Epic Games. Wizards of the Coast has described these islands as part of a “launch and learn” initiative aimed at discovering how D&D can engage a diverse array of Fortnite players in enjoyable and meaningful ways.
This initiative is designed to help Wizards of the Coast broaden the Dungeons & Dragons audience. The five islands released cater to various types of Fortnite players, featuring a social hub, a PvP arena, a co-op boss fight, and a co-op roguelike experience—billed as the largest in Fortnite’s history.
Collaborating directly with creators to develop these islands aligns perfectly with D&D’s homebrewing spirit, allowing players to influence how stories unfold.
“We’re bringing the essence of D&D homebrew to Fortnite—supporting creators, experimenting with new formats, and exploring how we can introduce D&D to new players,” said Nick Strann, the franchise strategy director. “D&D holds significant meaning for those who gather around the table, and we aim to make it just as impactful for millions of Fortnite fans. We eagerly anticipate player feedback on these creator-made islands to help shape future adventures for D&D enthusiasts.”

Fingers crossed these islands perform well enough to inspire some D&D-themed items in the shop. Who wouldn’t want a Mimic back bling?
