Minecraft Comes to Life Within Hytale Thanks to Talented Modder

Hytale has quickly turned into a haven for modders since its launch earlier this month. Players have already accomplished impressive feats, including a mod that integrates Minecraft into the Hytale world map and another that facilitates cross-play between the two sandbox games.

Launched in what the developers described as “very early access,” Hytale prioritized a strong, supportive modding framework right from the start. While features like adventure mode are still on the horizon, the community has been hard at work, particularly in the modding scene. Since its release on January 13, the game has seen a staggering 5.6 million mod downloads on CurseForge, with over 2,000 mods currently available.

Both Minecraft-related mods come from a talented 15-year-old modder named Sadat Sahib, who operates under the usernames iamcxv7 and SSquadTeam. His endeavor to place Minecraft within Hytale isn’t his first ambitious crossover; he has also managed to run Doom and Windows 95 within the Hytale map. In a Reddit post, he detailed the complex process of running Minecraft on the map screen: “I’m running Minecraft Classic 0.30 entirely on the server with a custom software renderer I wrote from scratch. No GPU, no OpenGL calls – just pure CPU-based 3D rendering. Every frame, I compute the pixels myself and stream them to players through Hytale’s world map system.”

The cross-play mod is even more intricate, with Sahib explaining that its foundation relies on “packet trickery” to allow players from both Minecraft and Hytale to enjoy their games simultaneously. He is gradually adding features like combat and cross-play chat, although the mod is still in development. Currently, neither of these mods is publicly available, and Sahib noted that the cross-play mod is still “really unstable,” but progress is being made.

Given the rapid achievements of the modding community in Hytale, it will be fascinating to see how creators continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Since its launch, many players have found joy in exploring the limits of their creativity in Hytale, not just in shaping their surroundings but in completely transforming the game itself.
