Fallout Season 2 Reintroduces Two Beloved Classics from the Franchise
The latest episode of Fallout season two delivered one of the most exciting reveals yet, perfect for those moments when you find yourself pointing at the screen and exclaiming, “Oh crap!” in front of your friends, eager to explain your enthusiasm.
But hold on! We’re about to dive into a major spoiler from season two, episode six of the Fallout series, featuring not just one, but two beloved elements from the classic Fallout games. If you want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to turn back. For everyone else, let’s keep going.
After a dramatic super-punch through a window at the end of the previous episode, the Ghoul is left in a dire situation, only to be rescued by a large, unusual figure. This figure turns out to be a Super Mutant. That’s right, the Fallout series has finally introduced these iconic characters, and it’s refreshing to see they aren’t the brutish monsters often portrayed in Bethesda’s Fallout games. Instead, this Super Mutant resembles the ones from the earlier Fallout CRPGs and New Vegas.
While a dead Super Mutant made a brief appearance in season one at an Enclave base, this marks the first time we’ve encountered a living Super Mutant in the show. That alone would be thrilling, but there’s even more to this moment. The actor behind the Super Mutant makeup is none other than Ron Perlman, who has a rich history with the Fallout franchise.
Perlman has lent his voice as a narrator in most of the Fallout games, including the originals from the ’90s. He’s the iconic voice that declares, “War. War never changes,” at the start of many Fallout adventures and often recaps your choices and their consequences at the end. He also appears in Fallout 4 as a TV newscaster during the game’s intro. Now, he’s back for the Fallout TV show, and it’s a fantastic addition.
Welcome back, Perlman! Let’s hope you received more than just $40 and a sandwich for this role.
After saving the Ghoul, Perlman’s Super Mutant character reveals that the Enclave, a shadowy group of fascists who aimed to seize control of the United States before the bombs fell, are responsible for the chaos. This group later claimed to be the rightful heirs to the United States’ power and authority in the post-apocalyptic world. It looks like they will play a significant role in the concluding episodes of Fallout season two.
