Doctor Who Star Joins Prime Video’s God of War Series as Ragnarok Antagonist
Prime Video’s upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War has cast Max Parker in the role of Heimdall, the Watchman of Asgard.
This series, inspired by the immensely popular video game franchise, centers on Kratos as he endeavors to teach his son Atreus the ways of being a god, while Atreus attempts to guide his father toward becoming a better human.
According to reports, Heimdall, one of Odin’s sons, feels undervalued by his father and underestimated by his family. This drives him to seek ways to elevate his status and power within the family hierarchy. The character made his debut in the 2022 game God of War Ragnarok.
The role of Kratos will be portrayed by Hurst, who previously lent his voice and motion capture to Thor in Ragnarok. Teresa Palmer is set to play Thor’s wife, Phoebe/Sif, who embodies the Norse goddess of Wheat, Harvest, and Family.
The live-action series was first announced in 2022, and in 2024, Ronald D. Moore, known for For All Mankind, was brought on as the new showrunner. Prime Video has also committed to two seasons of the series, likely buoyed by the success of other video game adaptations like Fallout.
Parker is recognized for his role as Sergeant Bobby Sullivan in Netflix’s short-lived series Boots and recently appeared in an episode of the latest Doctor Who season. In the UK, he is best known for his 84-episode run as Luke Posner in the soap opera Emmerdale.
As of now, Prime Video has not revealed a premiere date for the God of War series. In the meantime, fans can explore the best shows currently available on the platform.
