Helldivers 2 introduces stealth missions and revamped suppressed weapons, while Arrowhead confirms the slim PC build will become the standard.
Helldivers 2 has just dropped its latest update, and it’s packed with exciting changes. Not only are the soldiers of Super Earth getting some much-needed stealth enhancements for their suppressed weapons, but Arrowhead is also making the streamlined PC version the default build, much to the relief of players dealing with storage constraints.
The new version, titled Helldivers 2 Into the Unjust 5.0.2, is all about reducing noise—essentially making players “bang bang less.” The patch notes emphasize that “democracy doesn’t always need to shout,” allowing Helldivers to take out threats with less chance of detection and improved tactical control.
Expect quieter takedowns, smoother engagements, and fresh opportunities for coordinated attacks before enemies even realize you’re there. The notes remind players that while stealth is a powerful tool, it shouldn’t replace the need for overwhelming firepower.
Specifically, the noise radius for firing suppressed weapons has been slashed by 50%. Additionally, the detection radius for enemies being shot at but not hit has been reduced for certain units, including Impalers, Chargers, Watchers, Spewers, Berserkers, and Devastators. The M-1000 Maxigun has also received adjustments to its muzzle flash to help with photosensitivity issues.
To put these new stealth mechanics to the test, Arrowhead is introducing “brand new Commando missions,” where Helldivers will venture deep into enemy territory without air support. Players will need to deploy reinforcements in advance, as calling for support will be a risky endeavor with limited time.
While these missions aren’t live just yet, they’re set to launch alongside the slightly delayed Helldivers 2 Redacted Regiment Warbond in about two hours.
The streamlined PC build is a significant highlight of this update. Arrowhead has announced, “Finally, after weeks of your input and stress testing, we are ready to make the slim PC build default for all players.” This version, which became available last month, can save PC users around 131GB of space, but it was previously only accessible through a public technical beta.
The full-sized version will remain available for a limited time to ensure a smooth transition, allowing players to switch back if they choose. While Arrowhead hasn’t specified how long this transition period will last, they have indicated that the larger build will eventually be phased out.
Looking ahead, Arrowhead hints at “much more to come in February and beyond,” so stay tuned for future updates.
“A lot of Helldivers will die,” the CEO has stated regarding the next major update, and the roadmap for future content is still being finalized.
