Mario Kart World update introduces team races to Knockout Tour mode on Switch 2
Nintendo is gradually enhancing its big Switch 2 launch title with a fresh update that introduces team races to the wildest mode in Mario Kart World.
The 1.5.0 update rolled out earlier today, and the standout feature is the addition of team races to Knockout Tour during both ‘Online Play’ and ‘Wireless Play.’
The mechanics are similar to team races in other modes, where teammates contribute to a collective score based on their finishing positions, with the top-scoring team taking home the trophy. Expect a bit more downtime than usual in this typically fast-paced series, as Knockout Tour, true to its name, eliminates racers in waves throughout the expansive matches.
In the patch notes, Mario Kart World now includes support for the Polish language, along with several bug fixes. One fix addresses an issue where the displayed rating could sometimes be incorrect when entering a room in Online Play. There’s also a mention of a bug related to Kamek, who, as you may know, isn’t actually a playable character in the game. This likely points to a typo on Nintendo’s part, so don’t get your hopes up for the magikoopa or any upcoming DLC just yet.
As is typical for Nintendo, the update also includes the vague reassurance that “several other issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.” It’s a relief to know they’re on top of things.
Nintendo aims for Mario Kart World to be a go-to title for Switch 2 fans for years, much like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which raises hopes for potential DLC in the future.
