Sinners and One Battle After Another Gear Up for Oscar Nominations with Weekend Re-Releases

This weekend marks the re-release of One Battle After Another and Sinners, indicating that Warner Bros. is optimistic about both films making a strong showing in this year’s Oscar nominations.

Both titles are strong contenders for Best Picture, and directors Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler are also anticipated to receive nominations for Best Director when the announcements are made later today.

In the lead-up to the Oscars, One Battle After Another stood out at the Golden Globes, earning nine nominations and securing four wins, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Director, Best Screenplay, and an acting nomination for Teyana Taylor.

Sinners followed closely with six nominations and two wins for Best Original Score and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. While the Oscars can be unpredictable, these results give a solid indication of what to expect at the Academy Awards.

One Battle After Another tells the story of ex-revolutionary Bob (Leonardo DiCaprio), who is drawn back into conflict when his past resurfaces, and an old enemy comes searching for his teenage daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti).

Sinners, on the other hand, is a ’30s vampire tale featuring twin brothers (both portrayed by Michael B. Jordan) who must face a supernatural threat in their Mississippi hometown after nearly a decade away in Chicago, entangled in organized crime.

Both One Battle After Another and Sinners will hit theaters again on January 23.
