First Look: He-Man and Jared Leto’s Skeletor Unveiled in New Masters of the Universe Trailer
Masters of the Universe is set to bring iconic characters like He-Man, Skeletor, and even Fisto to life in a live-action film slated for 2026, nearly 40 years after a previous attempt that didn’t quite hit the mark. Recently, Amazon MGM Studios unveiled the first full trailer, giving fans a glimpse of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor.
The trailer showcases a variety of characters, including Beast-Man, Man-at-Arms, and Evil-Lyn, making it a significant reveal for the franchise.
According to the official synopsis, the film follows 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crash-lands on Earth in a spaceship and loses his magical Power Sword, his only connection to his home planet, Eternia. Nearly two decades later, he sets out to find it and is transported back to defend Eternia from Skeletor’s evil forces. To defeat this formidable foe, Prince Adam must uncover the secrets of his past and transform into He-Man, the most powerful man in the Universe.
Directed by Travis Knight, known for Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee, the screenplay is penned by Chris Butler, who has worked on ParaNorman and Missing Link.
Joining Galitzine and Leto are Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Björnsson as Goat Man, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress.
The Masters of the Universe franchise began in 1982 with a line of action figures, followed by the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Although the original series ran for just two seasons and 130 episodes, it led to numerous spinoffs, including She-Ra: Princess of Power, and sequel series, including two animated series on Netflix.
The new film is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026. Following the movie, He-Man will also star in a new beat-’em-up video game titled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction.
In light of Barbie’s success in 2023, Mattel is fully embracing toy-to-screen adaptations. Alongside Masters of the Universe, Mattel Films is currently developing several movies and live-action series based on various toys, including View-Master, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Magic 8 Ball, and Hot Wheels.
