“Wicked: For Good Fails to Secure Any Oscar Nominations Following Its Predecessor’s 10 Nods”
Wicked: For Good has surprisingly received no Oscar nominations this year, a stark contrast to its predecessor, which scored nominations in 10 categories back in 2025.
Ariana Grande was widely expected to earn a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her portrayal of Glinda, yet the sequel was notably absent from the 2026 nominations announcement.
The film also features two new songs not found in the original Broadway production, which many speculated were included to boost its chances for awards recognition. However, it was overlooked in the Best Original Song category, with the spotlight instead on tracks from Kpop Demon Hunters, Sinners, Train Dreams, Diane Warren: Relentless, and Viva Verdi!.
In 2025, the original Wicked garnered nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects, ultimately winning for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
This year’s nominations also saw notable snubs, including Chase Infiniti from One Battle After Another, who was overlooked for a Best Actress nomination for her impressive performance as the teenage daughter of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character. Additionally, Park Chan-wook’s anticipated black comedy No Other Choice missed out on a spot in the Best International Feature category.
Despite eight nominations for Hamnet, Paul Mescal did not receive a Best Actor nod for his role as William Shakespeare, while Delroy Lindo from Sinners made a surprising entry into the category.
The Oscars 2026 ceremony is set for Sunday, March 15.
