Final Fantasy 7 Remake Launches on Switch 2, Lead Developer Invites Smash Bros Fans to Explore Cloud and Sephiroth’s Story
Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi is reaching out to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans, encouraging them to dive into the legendary RPG.
Although Final Fantasy 7 didn’t make its way to a Nintendo console until its Switch port in 2019, Cloud Strife made his debut in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS back in 2015, becoming the sixth third-party character to join the roster. Fast forward five years, and Sephiroth also entered the fray as DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In a recent interview, Hamaguchi was asked if he had a message for players who will experience Final Fantasy 7 for the first time with the remake’s launch on Switch 2, and he specifically addressed fans of Super Smash Bros.
He stated, “Even if you haven’t played or heard of Final Fantasy 7, you might have encountered Cloud and Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and perhaps felt drawn to them without fully knowing their backgrounds.”
He continued, “The remake series allows you to explore the origins and stories of these characters. It’s a tightly woven, story-driven experience that lets you dive deep into their narratives, helping you to love and appreciate them even more.”
Given the popularity of Cloud and Sephiroth in Smash, he added, “If you’re interested in these characters, this is a fantastic opportunity to discover their roots. I wholeheartedly invite everyone to try out Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Nintendo Switch 2 to experience these incredible characters.”
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also set to receive God Mode on all platforms to celebrate its launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.
