Darth Maul Takes on the Galaxy in the First Trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

Darth Maul, a beloved character from the Star Wars universe, is making a triumphant return in his own series on Disney+. The first trailer for Shadow Lord hints at some serious Sith action as the iconic villain re-establishes his presence in a galaxy far, far away, catching the attention of an Empire eager to eliminate him. Inquisitor Marrok seems to be one of the first to pursue Maul.

The teaser showcases plenty of action as Maul recruits a new apprentice, a Twi’lek, setting the stage for one of the most compelling Star Wars narratives in recent memory. Maul is portrayed as a complex figure, straddling the line between hero and villain as he attempts to reshape the galaxy according to his vision.

Set about a year after the events of The Clone Wars, Sam Witwer reprises his role as Maul. At a recent panel, it was revealed that Witwer is also contributing creatively to the series. “I’m very excited about him being able to review the scripts and provide input in all of that as well,” said a Lucasfilm animation executive. “Dave Filoni and Sam created the character for animation, so it’s crucial to incorporate his insights for deeper character development.”

The event also featured an exclusive behind-the-scenes trailer that gave fans at the convention an early look at Maul and his new apprentice.

In an interview, Witwer teased that the Shadow Lord series will explore the implications of the Jedi no longer being a significant force in the galaxy. “He was trained his entire life to hate and kill Jedi, and he killed more Jedi than people were aware of in the Clone Wars,” Witwer noted. “And now they’re gone. How does he feel about the Jedi, his sworn enemy – how does he feel about them now that they are gone?”

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will premiere on Disney Plus on April 6.
