Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and its third installment are set for Switch, with the director assuring a similar experience to other platforms.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade has just made its debut on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, and exciting news is on the horizon: the other two installments of the trilogy are already in the works. Director Naoki Hamaguchi assures fans that these upcoming ports will not compromise the experience on Nintendo’s latest handheld.
Hamaguchi has hinted at the complete Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy making its way to all consoles, but this is the first concrete confirmation that development is actively underway. In a recent blog post, he shared insights about the project.
“While I can’t disclose too much about future titles, I want to reassure players that we’re currently developing the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second game in the series, as well as the third installment,” Hamaguchi stated. “Both are being worked on for the Switch 2 alongside other platforms.”
When he mentions “other platforms,” he likely refers to PS5, Xbox, and PC, which raises questions about whether the hybrid console can handle the technical demands, especially with the unknowns surrounding the third part’s capabilities. However, Hamaguchi encourages fans not to worry, as all versions will maintain a similar quality.
“I have a personal policy to ensure that no version of my games feels different or offers a distinct gameplay experience simply due to the hardware,” he explained. “This could confuse players about which version to purchase, and I want to avoid that. The Nintendo Switch 2 versions are being developed to keep the gameplay experience consistent with all other platforms, so I hope this reassures players on Switch 2.”
The Switch 2 ports of titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Cyberpunk 2077 have already shown impressive results, a significant improvement from the original Switch era where games like Hogwarts Legacy and The Witcher 3 suffered from noticeable downgrades. This gives reason to trust Hamaguchi’s commitment.
In celebration of the long-awaited launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also introducing a God Mode feature, allowing players to deal 9,999 damage with every hit across all platforms.
