Baldur’s Gate 3 Developers Express Excitement for Fable: “This Game Just Shot to the Top of My Must-Play List!”

Playground Games has finally unveiled its highly anticipated Fable reboot, bringing the whimsical world of Albion back to life after nearly two console generations. This enchanting adventure not only has me eager to dive into the joys and heartbreaks of Albion but has also caught the attention of fellow RPG developers, including those behind Baldur’s Gate 3.

During Xbox’s Developer Direct, the British studio showcased a wealth of information about both Forza Horizon 6 and Fable, giving us a glimpse into the game’s action combat, dynamic world, 1,000 unique NPCs, and life simulation elements that allow players to acquire properties or navigate the challenges of being a broke divorcee with three kids.

Larian Studios CEO and Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke expressed his enthusiasm on social media, stating, “I enjoyed the Fable showcase – the world looks gorgeous. Eager to see more.”

Larian’s publishing director, Michael Douse, chimed in with a humorous observation about the game, noting, “You can tell Fable is a fantasy role-playing game because in it you can become a landlord,” and remarked on the game’s unique take on character choices, likening it to having its “very own Dark Urge run.”

One of the standout features of Fable is that nearly every NPC—each one meticulously crafted—will react differently based on your decisions. The Developer Direct highlighted a moment where a commoner labeled the hero a ‘Rich Twat’ for monopolizing businesses, prompting Douse to declare, “Oh my fucking god this game just became my most anticipated.”

He further commented, “Only real ones can determine based British humor from performative British Twee, and I am happy to say Fable seems to be on the right side of the wry. Super curious to see what the US makes of it when it comes out.”
