Deadlock Receives Major Update: 6 New Characters, Fresh Game Mode, and Enhanced Postgame Features

Valve’s unique blend of MOBA and shooter, Deadlock, has just received what might be its most significant update yet.

Having been in beta on Steam for over a year, the game continues to evolve, with the latest ‘Old Gods, New Blood’ update introducing six new heroes over the next three weeks, along with a host of other enhancements.

Kicking off with the new characters—always a major draw in any MOBA—Valve has unveiled key art for the werewolf-like Silver, the necromancer Graves, the unicorn-horned performer Celeste, arms specialist Venator, sword-wielding Apollo, and a particularly charming character named Rem, who resembles a mix between a rat and a lemur. Starting January 26, players can expect two new heroes to join the roster each week, one on Mondays and another on Thursdays. The community will have a say in which heroes are released first, with additional votes earned simply by playing the game.

Another exciting addition in the Old Gods, New Blood update is a new game mode called Street Brawl. This fast-paced, four-on-four format features best-of-five rounds, where players can shop from a streamlined, randomized selection of items between rounds.

The update also brings a lengthy list of changes that are too extensive to cover in detail here. Highlights include new bosses, troopers, bases, and items, along with revamped postgame summaries and MVP scoring. There are various UI improvements, such as visibility outlines, updated damage numbers, visible kill streaks, and a random hero button. The settings menu has new options, and maps have been updated with underground tunnels for smaller characters like Rem, among many other enhancements.

Former FPS pro Shroud has already praised Deadlock as “one of the best games ever made,” suggesting it’s only a matter of time before more players recognize its potential.
