Vimeo Cuts Significant Staff Following Bending Spoons Acquisition
Vimeo is undergoing significant layoffs worldwide, just a few months after being acquired by the Italian software company Bending Spoons for $1.38 billion. While the exact number of affected employees remains unclear, Dave Brown, Vimeo’s former brand VP, indicated on LinkedIn that “a large portion of the company” has been impacted.
Former employees are voicing similar sentiments online, with one video engineer stating that “almost everyone” at Vimeo was let go, including the entire video team. Another software engineer mentioned being part of “a gigantic amount of the company” that was laid off. A spokesperson for Bending Spoons confirmed the layoffs but did not disclose specific numbers.
Recent reports suggest that Vimeo is laying off “most” of its employees in Israel, marking the second round of cuts in under six months. Previously, the company reduced its workforce by 10 percent in September, just a week before the acquisition announcement. These layoffs raise concerns about the future of content on the platform, including popular shows like those produced by Dropout.
Bending Spoons has a history of layoffs following acquisitions, having reduced staff at several companies it has bought, including WeTransfer, Filmic, and Evernote.
