The Latest Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Now Playable and Features an Enhanced Version of Queen’s Blood

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is packed with a variety of minigames, and one standout is Queen’s Blood, a card game you can enjoy with various characters throughout the world, complete with its own rich side story. This minigame is making its debut in Rebirth, as it hadn’t yet gained popularity in Midgar, the setting of the Remake. It seems Square Enix is keen to build on this concept for the upcoming third installment.

In a recent interview, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Queen’s Blood will return in the yet-to-be-named third game, but with some exciting changes.

“Queen’s Blood is a very popular and beloved minigame, and I believe a lot of people are still wanting something like that,” Hamaguchi shared. “I want to expand on Queen’s Blood, enhancing it to provide a more powerful version when you see that third installment… Queen’s Blood will still be available in the third installment; we just want to expand on it.”

What kind of enhancements can we expect? Perhaps new cards, fresh mechanics, or an expanded board for more strategic plays? While details are still under wraps, Queen’s Blood isn’t the only minigame making a comeback. The third entry will also feature the return of the classic snowboarding segment from the original Final Fantasy VII, which Hamaguchi assures will be more than just a simple minigame.

“I’m afraid I can’t delve too much into the details, but we understand that it’s not going to be just a simple snowboarding minigame. We want to ensure it’s woven into the story to connect with the overall theme,” he explained.

Though the third installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake is still a bit away, it sounds like development is progressing well and the game is in a playable state.

“In terms of the third installment, I believe we are coming along very smoothly,” he noted. “We have set a schedule for ourselves, and I believe we are tracking on time for the milestones we have set. I’m really thankful for the development team and have so much respect for them working on this project. At this point, the game is technically playable, but we are still polishing it to ensure it meets the quality we want to deliver to our players.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake has just launched on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S, with Rebirth expected to follow on both platforms later this year.
