Upcoming Nintendo Direct to Showcase The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Nintendo is gearing up for a new Nintendo Direct this Sunday, January 25, but don’t expect any announcements about upcoming Switch 2 titles. Instead, this Direct will focus on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, offering “an exclusive look” at the animated feature from Illumination.

To manage expectations regarding the potential reveal of Super Mario Galaxy 3 during the Direct, Nintendo has preemptively addressed the speculation, stating on social media, “Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation.”

The Direct will kick off on Sunday, January 25, at 9 a.m. EST/6 a.m. PST, and fans can catch the stream on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was announced by Nintendo and Illumination in September 2025, showcasing a brief clip from the 2026 animated film. Set to hit theaters on April 3, the movie will feature returning voice talents such as Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). New additions to the cast include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser, Jr.

Anticipation is high for Mario’s next cinematic adventure; The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a blockbuster success in 2023, raking in $1.36 billion at the box office, making it the most successful video game adaptation to date and the sixth-highest-grossing animated film ever.

This new Mario film will debut just in time for the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his crew, with three new titles already confirmed: Mario Tennis Fever in February, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder in March, and a new Yoshi platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, set to release whenever Yoshi feels it’s the right moment.
