Highguard Emerges from Silence, Sparking Online Buzz
Over 40 days after its debut as the “last big thing” at The Game Awards in December, Highguard’s social media presence has finally resurfaced, stirring up a wave of reactions from the gaming community.
On January 23, the official Highguard Twitter account announced a “Launch Showcase” live stream set for the game’s release on January 26. This marks the first time the account has engaged with fans since the initial reveal trailer dropped on December 12.
“Tune in on Monday, January 26, at 10am PT for the Highguard Launch Showcase,” the account tweeted. “Here, we’ll share an in-depth look at Highguard direct from the studio, featuring a full gameplay deep dive, year one plans, and much more.”
Since its reveal in December, Highguard has had a tumultuous few weeks. As the highlight of the Game Awards, which the developers reportedly didn’t pay for, it garnered significant attention but also faced heavy scrutiny. Fans typically anticipate a major sequel or a long-awaited title to close out host Geoff Keighley’s annual showcase. Instead, they were presented with a free-to-play online shooter that many felt resembled existing games too closely. The initial trailer left much to be desired in terms of clarity, resulting in a lukewarm reception.
Following the reveal, the silence from the Highguard team only fueled more speculation and discussion about what little information had been shared. Thus, the recent tweet from the main account captured a lot of interest.
“Bro finally remembered the password,” quipped popular Fortnite leaker Shiina.
“I logged in specifically just to mute you,” another user chimed in.
“Oh my word, they are alive,” remarked someone else.
“Dead game,” tweeted another, because, naturally, at least one person had to throw out that tired insult.
On the flip side, there are positive responses as well. Many are eager to discover what the game truly entails, while others are simply glad to see the developers still engaged. Regardless of the mixed sentiments, Highguard has certainly caught the attention of many online, with some rooting for its success and others hoping for its downfall. The wait for more information will soon be over, as Highguard’s big launch day stream is set for January 26, coinciding with the game’s release on consoles and PC. Expect plenty of eyes on this one.
