Ubisoft Reaffirms Development of Beyond Good and Evil Sequel as Fans Mark 18 Years of Anticipation

Somehow, Beyond Good and Evil 2 continues to endure through the chaos at Ubisoft. Initially revealed back in 2008, this game has been in various stages of development for nearly 18 years, leaving fans eagerly anticipating its arrival. You might think this project would have fallen victim to Ubisoft’s significant restructuring, but the company maintains that it’s still in the pipeline.

In a recent breakdown of the restructuring, Ubisoft included Beyond Good and Evil in what it refers to as Creative House 4. However, this wasn’t a definitive confirmation that the sequel is actively being developed. While a list of six canceled projects—such as the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake and several unannounced titles—didn’t include BG&E2, it still felt like a long shot to believe it had survived the cuts.

But just yesterday, Ubisoft clarified its stance. A spokesperson stated, “Beyond Good & Evil will be part of Creative House 4, dedicated to immersive fantasy worlds and narrative-driven universes. Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains a priority for us in the context of our strategy centered around Open World Adventures.”

So, congratulations to fans of Beyond Good and Evil? Unfortunately, this just means the wait for a sequel continues to stretch on. Ubisoft first teased a follow-up way back in 2008, but it wasn’t until 2017 that the game we now recognize as Beyond Good and Evil 2 was officially revealed. Since then, it has largely gone dark, with Ubisoft intermittently assuring fans that development is ongoing.

If Beyond Good and Evil 2 is indeed still in the works, I can’t help but wonder why. Don’t get me wrong—the original game earned its cult classic status for a reason, and the ambitious open-world concept Ubisoft showcased in 2017 still sounds captivating.

However, the original Beyond Good and Evil is often remembered for how many people didn’t play it. Why has Ubisoft chosen to push this project forward while so many others have been scrapped? The last title that managed to escape development hell at the company didn’t exactly turn out well. Despite Ubisoft’s reassurances, I find myself growing more concerned each time they mention that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still on the horizon.

As other developers embrace AI as a development tool, Ubisoft is focusing on “player-facing generative AI.”
