Yoshi Makes His Adorable Debut in the New Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer

As promised earlier this week, we’ve got an exciting new glimpse into the next big adventure of the Mario Bros. thanks to a recent Nintendo Direct. What’s showcased here is sure to get fans buzzing about another journey with that lovable plumber who sounds a lot like Star-Lord and is, coincidentally, venturing into space. Plus, he’s got a new dinosaur buddy along for the ride.

In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Chris Pratt returns as the iconic hero, joined by Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. New additions to the cast include Benny Safdie as the vengeful Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, who is arguably one of the biggest Mario fans among the cast (just ask her first boyfriend).

Most importantly, Mario’s trusty companion with an insatiable appetite, Yoshi, makes an appearance, teased in the post-credits of the previous film. He seems to be getting a lot of screen time, even taking care of Baby Mario and Luigi at one point. Unfortunately, Wario is still absent, though Jack Black has expressed interest in having Pedro Pascal voice him. Perhaps we’ll see him in a future installment?

As we flip through the stunning visuals, it’s evident that the same passion for Mario and his friends has been infused into this sequel as in the first film. The difference this time is the breathtaking graphics that truly capture the essence of the original 2007 planet-hopping video game, which inspired this sequel. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic appear to have outdone themselves once again. We’ll find out just how well they’ve succeeded when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on April 3.
