Amazon Intensifies Focus on AI Anime Dubs Amid Backlash, Then Removes Job Listing for AI Dubbing Expansion
Amazon appears to be intensifying its efforts in AI-driven anime dubbing, despite facing criticism from fans, by seeking a Creative Director for Dubbing on its Prime Video platform. However, the job listing has since been taken down.
The role was described as leading the creation of hybrid workflows that merge AI efficiency with artistic and culturally relevant elements, ensuring quality and ethical standards while promoting the global growth of AI-enhanced dubbing. Candidates were expected to have a strong background in creative direction, cross-cultural storytelling, and AI in media, aiming to establish new industry standards for immersive and emotionally resonant international narratives.
One of the main responsibilities highlighted was the identification of opportunities and the establishment of creative workflows to broaden AI dubbing into new languages and content types, including anime, documentaries, and live-action films.
Less than a day after the job was reported, and just five days after it was initially posted, the listing was removed.
In December 2025, Amazon faced backlash when viewers discovered that the English dub of the anime series Banana Fish was generated by AI. The ‘Audio Languages’ option included an ‘English [AI beta]’ selection, but due to negative feedback regarding its quality, Amazon subsequently pulled the AI dub. Currently, there is no English-language audio option available for Banana Fish on the platform.
Prime Video has also implemented AI for the English dubs of anime titles such as Pet and No Game, No Life Zero, as well as the Spanish dubs for Banana Fish and Vinland Saga.
