Finding Thorium in Hytale: A Guide

Hytale Thorium is a green ore that allows you to craft upgraded weapons, armor, and tools, surpassing the capabilities of Stone, Copper, and Iron. This ore marks the beginning of your journey into more exotic materials, and you’ll need to venture into higher-level zones to find it, if you haven’t already. The armor crafted from Thorium offers solid poison resistance, making it particularly valuable as you prepare to tackle more dangerous environments. However, your first task is to locate it, so here’s where to search.

To find Thorium in Hytale, head to the sandy desert region known as the Howling Sands. This area is the second zone in the game, following the Emerald Wilds, and is the primary location for Thorium (though you might spot a few pieces in the snowy regions, they are quite rare). As with all ores, your best bet is to dig underground, where you’ll discover glowing green lumps or caverns filled with this resource.

In my experience, while I encountered plenty of Hytale Copper and Iron in large clusters, Thorium tends to appear in smaller, isolated groups. This makes gathering it a bit slower, but the same digging strategies apply as with previous ores—focus on underground exploration or seek out mine structures that provide access to caverns without the need for extensive digging.

Thorium is generally one of the more challenging ores to collect in bulk, as it primarily spawns in the sandy areas of the map. I found significantly more Hytale Iron in the desert during my search. You can also find a small amount in the snowy Whisperfrost Frontiers, the third zone, but it’s even scarcer there. With its limited spawn area and low quantities, you’ll need to actively seek it out rather than relying on casual exploration to gather it.

On the other hand, Cobalt, the next ore in the crafting progression, appears to be more abundant, and I’ve had great luck finding Adamantite when I come across it. If you’re having trouble locating enough Thorium, consider using some Hytale console commands to spawn it.
