Return to Silent Hill Director Aims for More Projects Despite 16% Rotten Tomatoes Rating: “I Believe Many Think I’m Doing Well”
The return to Silent Hill may not be winning over critics, but director Christophe Gans is eager to take another shot at adapting the beloved horror game series for the big screen.
This isn’t Gans’ first venture into the eerie world of Silent Hill; he previously directed a film in 2006 simply titled Silent Hill.
“If I get the chance, I’d love to revisit Silent Hill,” he shared. “I don’t see it just as a fantastic video game; I view it as a piece of modern art. It has a unique, edgy, and experimental vibe. I want to adapt another chapter because there are some incredible stories that differ significantly from the first film and now Return to Silent Hill. I’m passionate about this universe, and I believe many fans appreciate my work.”
Return to Silent Hill has received a dismal 16% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with a slightly better, yet still low, 30% audience score. Our review of Return to Silent Hill gave it a mere 1.5 stars, stating: “Loosely inspired by the 2001 game Silent Hill 2, Return to Silent Hill offers an atmospheric horror experience with original creature designs that honor Konami’s iconic franchise. However, a muddled plot, subpar visual effects, and exaggerated performances may render Gans’ latest adaptation as divisive as his first attempt two decades ago.”
Return to Silent Hill is currently in theaters.
