Diablo 4 Becomes Blizzard’s All-Time Best-Selling Game, Says Marketing Lead
Despite the ups and downs of player sentiment over the years, it’s clear that Diablo 4 has struck a chord with gamers. In fact, it has become the best-selling title in Blizzard’s 35-year history, as highlighted by a marketing lead at the company.
Lauren Ashling Hill, the communications lead for Activision Blizzard in Northern Europe, proudly states on her LinkedIn profile that Diablo 4 is “the best selling Blizzard game of all time.” She also mentions that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2—specifically the 2022 version, not the classic from 2009—holds the title of “the best selling game in COD history.”
These figures serve as a powerful reminder that, while older games may hold a special place in our hearts, the gaming industry has grown exponentially. Although Diablo 4’s 73% positive reviews on Steam may not match the near-universal acclaim of titles like Diablo 2, its impact in terms of player numbers is undeniable.
While Blizzard hasn’t released specific sales figures for Diablo 4, the developers referred to it as their “fastest selling” game at launch, and just a few months later, they announced that 12 million players had already joined the fray. Despite any challenges that updates may have introduced, the initial momentum has clearly remained strong.
In a recent discussion, No Rest for the Wicked lead expressed concerns about “irreparable damage” to Diablo under former Blizzard head Mike Ybarra, who remarked, “I don’t have to work anymore” but added, “you do,” encouraging players to “chill.”
