“Code Vein 2 Hits Steam with ‘Mixed’ Early Access Reviews, Players Call It ‘Wasted Money'”
It’s been a few years since Bandai Namco introduced its Dark Souls-inspired action RPG, the original Code Vein, and now the sequel, Code Vein 2, has hit the scene with a mix of reviews.
If you experienced the first Code Vein, you likely recall its distinct anime-inspired visuals and thrilling combat—elements that the sequel also showcases. However, it seems not all players are impressed. Those who pre-ordered and gained early access have taken to Steam to share their thoughts, resulting in an overall “Mixed” rating.
One review states, “One of the most unoptimized games I have ever played,” lamenting the missed potential. Another player expressed disappointment, saying, “For now, it feels like wasted money for early access. The game performs like shit.”
This sentiment isn’t isolated. Another player remarked, “This game, for about the one hour that I played, felt like a spit in the face to fans of the first game.”
Despite the “Mixed” rating, not all feedback is negative. Many players are enjoying their experience with Code Vein 2. One enthusiastic review notes, “Code Vein was one of my favourite Souls titles, and this is already one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played in the past year.”
Interestingly, another player mentioned they haven’t encountered any performance issues, contrasting with the complaints from others.
The current reviews for Code Vein 2 reflect a wide range of opinions, especially when compared to the first game, which enjoys a “Very Positive” rating on Steam. In a humorous twist, the latest review for the original game takes a jab at the sequel, stating, “Better than Code Vein 2.” Whether this holds true will be determined after the official release on January 29.
