Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to Explore Premium Subscription Options

Meta is set to roll out new premium subscription options for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp in the near future, aimed at enhancing user experience with expanded AI features and additional tools. The goal of these subscription plans is to “unlock more productivity and creativity,” giving premium users greater control over their sharing and connectivity.

The basic services of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp will continue to be free, with these new subscriptions distinct from the paid Meta Verified service introduced in 2023. Meta plans to experiment with various subscription features and bundles, launching each app with its own unique set of exclusive capabilities. Pricing details for these upcoming plans have yet to be revealed.

One feature under consideration is Vibes, an AI-driven short-form video experience integrated into the Meta AI app. Initially free since its launch in September 2025, Vibes may transition to a freemium model, restricting certain video creation features to paying subscribers. Additionally, Manus, a suite of AI agents acquired by Meta for around $2 billion in December, will be included in these subscription offerings, with plans to integrate Manus into Meta’s products while still providing it as a standalone option for businesses.

Leaker Alessandro Paluzzi has noted a shortcut to Manus AI on Instagram, accompanied by a description that suggests users can “research, create, and build with Manus.” The premium subscription for Instagram might also enable users to create unlimited audience lists, identify accounts they follow that don’t follow them back, and view Stories without alerting the original poster. Details on what the premium subscriptions for WhatsApp and Facebook will offer remain unclear.

These premium plans may be Meta’s strategy to recoup some of the investments made in AI development. While competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic charge for advanced access to their models, Meta’s Llama family has stayed open-source and free. The challenge ahead will be convincing users that the AI features on their social media platforms are worth a subscription fee.
