The latest Apple AirTag upgrade makes my top Switch 2 case even more impressive.
Apple has rolled out its next-gen AirTag, and this is fantastic news for anyone using the Belkin Charging Case for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The case cleverly includes a hidden pocket designed for Apple’s location tracker, allowing gamers to keep tabs on their valuable Nintendo gear while on the move. This travel-friendly feature just got even better with the updated AirTag, which boasts an extended finding range and a louder speaker, making it more appealing than ever. Until now, I overlooked that small gray pocket, as adding an AirTag felt like an unnecessary expense on top of the already steep $69.99 price tag for the case. However, with the new device available for the same $29.99 MSRP, it’s time to snag one and ease my travel-related worries.
The new 2nd Generation Apple AirTag is available for your Belkin Switch 2 case, priced at $29.99 individually or $99.99 for a four-pack. This upgraded tracker can be monitored through the Find My app on compatible iPhones and iPads, and you can even get it engraved at the Apple Store to make it uniquely yours.
Powered by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the new AirTag can be tracked from “50 percent further away” than its predecessor. This chip is also found in the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and Apple Watch Series 11, and when paired with a new Bluetooth module, it can be tracked using a compatible iPhone running iOS 16 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 16 or later.
While the exact new range hasn’t been disclosed, being able to track an AirTag from a greater distance is a significant advantage for those with either the Belkin Charging Case or the more budget-friendly Belkin Carrying Case for the Switch 2, especially for someone like me who tends to get anxious while traveling.
There have been countless times when I’ve wanted to stow my Switch 2 in my luggage while flying or taking a train, but the thought of it being out of reach made me uneasy. Knowing that the 2nd generation Apple AirTag could be tucked away in the case’s fabric mesh pocket, ready to tell me where my handheld is via my iPad, would definitely ease my mind.
The upgraded speaker has also made me seriously consider getting an AirTag. Apple claims it’s “50 percent louder than the previous generation,” which means it should be audible from twice the distance. The AirTag now features a new chime and enhanced Precision Finding capabilities, making it easier to locate in a pinch.
Even though my Switch 2 often gets lost in my house while stored in the bulky Belkin Charging Case, a louder speaker would be incredibly useful. I’ve resorted to attaching a Care Bear Tamagotchi to the zipper of my case to make noise and help me find it, but a louder AirTag tucked inside seems like a much more effective (if less adorable) solution. Plus, it finally puts to use a key feature of Belkin’s Switch 2 accessories that I’ve been neglecting for too long.
