Andor’s Second Season Offers Insight into a Major Flaw of the Sequel Trilogy, According to Fans

Andor has made a notable enhancement to a concept from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, as pointed out by a fan of the Disney Plus series.

In the second season of Andor, a key storyline revolves around the Empire’s intentions for the planet Ghorman, where they mine for kalkite to ultimately fuel the Death Star, leading to the tragic Ghorman Massacre. A fan on Reddit observed that this scenario shares similarities with Starkiller Base, introduced in The Force Awakens.

“The existence of Starkiller Base always bugged me. You’re telling me the entire planet had its middle ripped out and its core mined for kyber? The scale seemed so out of whack,” they noted.

“However, the Ghorman narrative in Andor serves as a real-time retelling of a comparable situation. The showrunners handled it in a much more tasteful way (they didn’t even show us the mining craft meant to gut Ghorman; we simply hear about it). In Andor, the scale of the strip-mining operation feels realistic and grounded.”

“This just goes to show that when you get scale and story right, what could otherwise be a silly premise becomes real and terrifying.”

The post has garnered hundreds of upvotes, and while opinions vary, one user highlighted that Star Wars had already laid the groundwork for a similar concept: “This is also something that was expanded on before Andor even came out. In the Jedi Fallen Order game, we see the Empire, around a decade before A New Hope, already mining on Illum. There was likely a plan to use Illum as a super weapon even back then.”

“Was going to say Jedi Fallen Order I think confirmed an earlier fan theory and a clever way to anchor [J.J.] Abrams’ nonsense to the wider universe in a meaningful way,” another fan added. “Given Ilum’s significance to the Jedi, it adds an extra mean-spirited edge to it.”

Andor season 2 stands as the most critically acclaimed live-action Star Wars project to date, so it’s no wonder it manages to ground some of the saga’s more outrageous ideas.

Next up for Star Wars is The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to hit theaters on May 22.
