Highguard Cuts Steam Text Ties to Titanfall Creators
Since its reveal at the Game Awards in December, Highguard has been promoted as a free-to-play shooter developed by a team with roots in Titanfall and its battle royale counterpart, Apex Legends. However, it appears that Highguard is now distancing itself from that association.
On January 26, the day Highguard launched on PC and consoles, the developers made a subtle yet intriguing update to the game’s Steam store page. Initially, the description read:
“From the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall, comes Highguard: a PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens, arcane gunslingers sent to fight for control of a mythical continent.”
However, as noted by SteamDB, the description was altered to eliminate any reference to Titanfall and its spin-off. The revised text now states:
“Highguard is a PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens, arcane gunslingers sent to fight for control of a mythical continent.”
This change is noteworthy, especially since the initial announcement from Geoff Keighley explicitly linked Highguard to these well-known EA titles and highlighted the team’s background. At the 2025 Game Awards, he mentioned:
“Our final world premiere comes from 61 members of the team that built Apex Legends and Titanfall. Four years ago, the principals founded a new, independent studio with the hopes of pushing the shooter genre forward…”
An Xbox Wire post on launch day also referenced Titanfall and Apex Legends, but the store pages for Highguard on Xbox and PlayStation do not mention either title or the studio’s connection to them.
Speculation is already swirling about the reasons behind this change. Did legal concerns prompt the shift? Are the developers looking to separate Highguard from Titanfall, especially given the game’s poor reception on Steam? Or was it simply a marketing decision to streamline the store page? The answers remain unclear, but this alteration adds another layer of intrigue to the Highguard narrative.
