Street Fighter 6 Energy Drink Highlights Our Departure from Traditional Values

It’s an exciting week for gaming updates! Splatoon 3, Kirby Air Riders, and Helldivers 2 are all set to roll out fresh content. However, none of these updates come with physical trading cards packed with energy drinks. Welcome to another edition of Morning Checkpoint, your daily dive into the latest gaming news, rumors, and culture.

Meet Spout, the latest AI robot that’s catching the eye of Disney and others for its ability to dance and tidy up toys. I’m looking forward to its debut in Philly!

New energy drink trading cards are on the horizon, featuring characters like Ryu and Chun-Li, promising to boost your real-life HP with tasty flavors and some questionable ingredients. These cards were crowdfunded and are aimed at competitive esports players. Currently, they’re only available in Japan and function like loot boxes, so you won’t know which card you’ll get until you crack it open. It’s a fun way to collect and maybe even pass down to future generations as a testament to our 21st-century indulgences. Finally, a simpler way to get your energy fix!

“When gaming, studying, in meetings, or driving—situations that demand focus—many struggle with the need to refuel, which disrupts concentration. ENERGY ARTS tackles this by aiming for ‘an effortless way to replenish energy,’” the announcement states. “Just grab it, snap it open with one hand, and drink. The entire process of ‘opening, holding, drinking, putting it away’ has been streamlined. Energy replenishment is completed in just 0.5 seconds, creating a ‘transparent’ user experience that makes refueling almost automatic.”

The Ver. 1.3.0 update introduces GameShare support, a new Grand Prix game mode, and various tweaks, including character balancing and bug fixes. Director Masahiro Sakurai mentioned that the goal is to get the Switch 2 exclusive in a solid state and then let it be.

A free 11.0.0 update is set to launch on January 29, adding a new Flow Aura state that spreads extra ink for a brief period after players achieve a kill streak. It will also enhance hit detection, opponent health bar notifications, and introduce a new Stealth Jump gear ability to keep players’ landing spots hidden from the enemy team.

Previously an enemy faction in the first game, there are also several new weapons arriving on February 3, including a Trident shotgun, a grenade machine gun, and a breaching hammer that causes explosions.

The campaign urging game developers to explore more ways to keep games alive post-launch has surpassed the 1 million verified signatures needed to prompt a regulatory response from the European Union. “The Commission has until July 27, 2026, to provide its official response, detailing any actions it plans to take,” a press release stated this week. “The Commission will meet with the organizers to discuss the initiative in detail in the coming weeks, followed by a public hearing organized by the European Parliament.”

The PS2 classic won’t be making its return on March 19 as initially scheduled. Koei Tecmo has announced that it needs more time to “improve the quality” of the game.

Leaker NateTheHate recently claimed on his podcast that Final Fantasy XVI, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Metaphor: Refantazio are all expected to receive Switch 2 ports. If the console can handle it, I’m sure developers will want to bring their games to this platform. So far, the Switch 2 is shaping up to be quite capable!
