A subtle detail in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms suggests that Egg may be concealing a secret, according to Game of Thrones fans.
If you’re tuning into A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, you might have picked up on the fact that Ser Dunk the Tall’s squire, Egg, isn’t exactly what he appears to be.
For starters, this young lad is surprisingly sharp for his age, and his refined accent seems a bit out of place for an orphaned commoner. This detail hasn’t gone unnoticed by some fans.
In the premiere episode, Egg hops onto Dunk’s horse, decked out in armor, and pretends to be a knight. When Dunk catches him in the act, Egg enthusiastically calls out, “My lord!” This moment might remind you of Arya Stark’s disguise as a low-born girl while interacting with Tywin Lannister back in season 2 of Game of Thrones.
Tywin, however, was quick to sense that Arya was concealing her true identity, and it was her use of “my lord” instead of “milord” that tipped him off. A comparison of Arya and Egg’s blunder highlights this similarity.
If you’re familiar with George R.R. Martin’s Knight of the Seven Kingdoms novella, you likely have an idea of the storyline unfolding in the show, but we won’t spoil anything here.
The series follows Dunk, a hedge knight, as he strives to make a name for himself at a tournament featuring the Targaryen royal family. In our four-star review of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, we noted: “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a surprisingly heartfelt, light, and fun return to Westeros, with a delightful duo at its core. Swapping kingdom-shaking battles for grounded character drama, this latest installment in the ever-expanding Game of Thrones universe is also a moving, resonant exploration of what it truly means to be a knight.”
