Daisy Ridley: Rey Movie Updates Likely Won’t Arrive Until After 2027

Patience is key, fellow Star Wars enthusiasts! It looks like we might not get any updates on the much-anticipated Rey movie until 2027 at the earliest, according to Daisy Ridley.

In a recent chat, Ridley was asked about the chances of hearing news about the film this year. She responded honestly, saying, “Maybe. I don’t know about 2026. In the future sometime, yeah.”

The project was first announced during Star Wars Celebration 2023, where it was revealed that the film would follow Rey as she works to establish a new Jedi Order after the events of Rise of Skywalker. The director has been confirmed as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her work on Ms. Marvel. However, since that announcement, progress seems to have stalled.

Ridley expressed her thoughts on the film’s development back in December, stating, “There are scripts that I read five years ago, and now I’ve gone, ‘Oh, maybe they will actually happen.’ I think over the years, I’ve learned how the reality of getting any film made is so massive. The hurdles are vast… But with [the Rey movie] particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it.”

In the meantime, fans can catch Ridley in a different role, battling brain-eating zombies instead of Sith and stormtroopers, in Zak Hilditch’s horror film We Bury the Dead. In this flick, she portrays Ava, a physical therapist who journeys from the US to Australia in search of her missing husband amid a zombie apocalypse.

While we bide our time for more news on Rey’s cinematic journey, there’s plenty of excitement to explore in the upcoming Star Wars movie lineup.
