Bethesda’s Skyrim lore expert hints that the location for The Elder Scrolls 6 was chosen during the development of Fallout 4, suggesting a collective decision.

While Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t officially revealed the setting for The Elder Scrolls 6, speculation is rampant among fans. According to series veteran and “loremaster” Kurt Kuhlmann, the developers may have had a location in mind for some time.

Kuhlmann shared insights from discussions that took place during the Fallout 4 era, noting, “There was a sort of consensus amongst a few people that were talking about it.” However, he cautions that this initial idea may not reflect the final decision for The Elder Scrolls 6 when it eventually launches.

He emphasizes that this “consensus” was more of a brainstorming session rather than a concrete plan, as he hasn’t been involved in the narrative development since Skyrim. “We had an idea, but it was more of a consensus, like, ‘OK, where should the next game be?’ And the people who were talking all agreed. It was not an argument. It was like, ‘Well, obviously, it should be here.’ We were more in the feel of it, in the setting; there was no story involved yet.”

It’s worth noting that Kuhlmann hasn’t been part of the story discussions since Skyrim, which was released over 14 years ago. As a devoted Elder Scrolls fan, I’m choosing to interpret this as a glimmer of hope, even if I’m not entirely sure what it confirms.

It’s been a long seven years since The Elder Scrolls 6 was teased with a brief trailer at E3 2018, and details about the game have been scarce since then. I’m not counting vague mentions or minor references; I genuinely want to know where this next adventure will take us.

Theories abound, with popular speculation pointing to Hammerfell and High Rock, but I secretly hope for a return to the quirky charm of Morrowind. Only time will tell what the future holds for this beloved franchise.
