X-Men Annual #1 Features the Team as Living Drawings in a Comic Battle Against an Imagination-Manipulating Villain

The X-Men are gearing up for one of their most bizarre escapades yet in X-Men Annual #1, where they face off against a villain called The Creationist, who wields the power of “imagination itself.” The team will dive into a drawing, battling foes that manifest as unfinished pencil sketches in a fully realized world.

This annual is penned by Ryan Stegman, with lead artist Steve Skroce contributing the main artwork, alongside additional pages from Sanford Greene and Stegman himself.

Here’s your first look at some pages from the annual, featuring the Uncanny X-Men and special guest Jean Grey, the Phoenix. It also showcases how the X-Men will appear as incomplete art within a narrative landscape, illustrated by Stegman.

The official synopsis teases: “When a new mutant threat known as the Creationist compels four artists to conjure monsters that rip through reality, the X-Men must endure an assault where imagination itself turns into their adversary. They must thwart the Creationist before his nightmarish visions engulf the world.”

This annual is a continuation of the ongoing Uncanny series by Gail Simone and artist David Marquez, which follows a Louisiana-based team led by Gambit and Rogue as they train a group of enigmatic young mutants.

The entire X-Men universe is on the brink of a new chapter dubbed ‘Shadows of Tomorrow,’ introducing significant changes to the series while Uncanny X-Men remains a cornerstone of the franchise.

X-Men Annual #1 hits shelves on March 4.
