Hytale Developers Plan Weekly Pre-Release Updates to Accelerate Production and Embrace Bold Patch Changes
Simon Collins-Laflamme, CEO of Hypixel, has shared an update regarding the studio’s plans for pre-release content, introducing a new weekly update schedule alongside a monthly release plan. This approach aims to allow the team to focus on development rather than just shipping.
In a statement on his Twitter account, Collins-Laflamme clarified the difference between the weekly pre-release updates and the larger, less frequent release patches. He noted, “Going forward, we’ll use the pre-release patchline to be a bit more adventurous. It will be updated weekly and may be unstable by design; this is where new features, larger changes, and iterations happen.”
He acknowledged that there may be times when updates are skipped due to holidays, personal time off, or other reasons. Once the pre-release updates reach a stable state, a complete package will be rolled out. “Once we’re comfortable with the pre-release state (which can result from one or several updates), we’ll schedule it to release and communicate to everyone,” he added.
To enhance production efficiency, here’s the new structure for Hytale updates:
– Pre-release updates will be released weekly.
– These updates will allow players to experience new features earlier for feedback and bug reporting.
– Full releases will occur when the pre-release is in a solid state, approximately every 2 to 6 weeks.
– This means more time for development.
Collins-Laflamme also mentioned that there will be around five pre-release updates leading up to a larger release patch. “To clarify, if we update the pre-release with five updates, the release will contain those five updates,” he explained.
He concluded by assuring players that they would receive notifications ahead of time, allowing them to prepare and back up their mods and servers before any changes are implemented. It appears that since Hypixel took over Hytale, progress is accelerating beyond expectations.
“Hytale is a forever game”: After a remarkable comeback, the head of Hytale stated it “will get updates as long as gaming exists.”
