A New Elden Ring TTRPG is on the Way from the Creators Who Dominated D&D in Japan

Before the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign, the idea of blending “Dark Souls” with “Fortnite” seemed far-fetched to many gamers. Fast forward nearly a year, and it’s clear that Nightreign and its Forsaken Hollows DLC are not just a passing novelty—they’re genuinely impressive. This gives me hope for Group SNE’s announcement on January 26 about adapting FromSoftware’s unique action game into a tabletop RPG.

Can I picture how this will work? Not really. Many fans are struggling to envision Nightreign as a tabletop RPG, despite their excitement, as seen in the puzzled reactions on social media. However, Group SNE has the experience to make it happen. They are known for creating Sword World RPG, a title that gained such immense popularity in Japan that it nearly overshadowed Dungeons & Dragons entirely. Plus, this isn’t their first attempt at a tabletop adaptation; they previously worked on the Japanese version of the Dark Souls TTRPG, distinct from the $5.4M Kickstarter project by another company. Group SNE is also recognized for their contributions to the high-fantasy Record of Lodoss War franchise, which has sold millions of novels and manga.

Details about what players can expect from Group SNE’s Elden Ring: Nightreign adaptation are still scarce, but it is set to launch in spring 2026. For those who understand Japanese, you can catch a glimpse of the TTRPG’s mechanics in the 20th issue of GM Warlock magazine, available on January 29. Is it too much to wish for an English translation down the line? The new Nightreign DLC is fantastic, but I might soon need to seek out more content to satisfy my cravings.
