Classic Disney Game by Resident Evil Designer Returns to Switch

Being a kid in the early 90s meant soaking up the magic of the Disney Afternoon programming block. Countless hours were spent glued to the TV, enjoying classics like Tailspin and Darkwing Duck every weekday. When the Disney Afternoon Collection of games launched in 2017, it was a nostalgic trip back to those carefree days. Now, it’s time to relive that experience once more, as the Disney Afternoon Collection is set for an updated release featuring two additional games.

The new Disney Afternoon Collection is dropping on February 26, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. It will be available digitally, but for those who cherish physical media, there will also be physical copies. This updated collection includes all the games from the previous version, plus two exciting new titles. While both additions are thrilling, one stands out as a must-play.

Joining the lineup is the Goof Troop game for Super Nintendo, originally released in 1993. This is fantastic news not just because Goof Troop was a beloved show that led to a fantastic movie, but for another compelling reason.

Goof Troop was co-designed by Shinji Mikami, who later directed the original Resident Evil just three years later. His career has been remarkable, culminating in the founding of Tango Gameworks, the studio behind the Evil Within series and other notable titles.

The other new game, Bonkers, is based on the animated series featuring a cat who’s also a cop. Released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, Bonkers didn’t quite achieve the same level of success as other Disney Afternoon franchises, likely due to its main character lacking a strong Disney connection.

The full game lineup is quite impressive, especially for those who haven’t picked up the Disney Afternoon Collection before. Even if you have, this marks the first time the collection will be available on the Switch or Switch 2, making it perfect for gaming on the go.

While the games maintain their original art and controls, they also come with a host of modern upgrades. Features like save and rewind options are included for all titles, along with special features that provide access to archival Disney content, a music player, and an image gallery. The six games originally released on NES—excluding the two new titles—will also feature speed-running modes and online leaderboards.

The only thing missing is a ludicrous special edition complete with a life-size golden statue of Scrooge McDuck. However, a recent announcement revealed that the physical edition will include some fun extras when it launches in May. Alongside the game cartridge, players can expect sticker sheets, postcards, milk caps, and a reversible cover. And for those unfamiliar with milk caps, just ask your parents about Pogs.
