Alienware’s New Area-51 PCs Featuring AMD X3D Chipsets Arrive—And They’re Pricier Than My Car!

Dell has officially launched its Alienware Area-51 AMDX3D lineup, featuring the latest Ryzen processors. However, brace yourself for the price tag—while there are some introductory discounts, the configurations with the RTX 5090 can soar up to $7,000.

Let’s be honest: the Area-51 might be the top-tier Alienware gaming PC available, but I doubt many of you will be eyeing the slightly more affordable Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 builds, which currently start at $4,449.99. This setup includes an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB SSD. There’s also a “budget-friendly” GeForce RTX 5070 option for $3,749.99, but shelling out that much for a mid-range graphics card is pretty wild.

Now available for purchase, Dell’s flagship Area-51 series combines AMD’s powerful Ryzen X3D chipsets with Nvidia’s RTX 50-series GPUs and up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM. These machines are absolute powerhouses, but you could be looking at a hefty price tag of up to $7,000 without any discounts.

While these prices might seem steep, they’re not exclusive to Dell’s new Alienware range. Many of the top gaming PCs are seeing price hikes due to the ongoing RAM shortage driven by AI demand, and Nvidia’s offerings, particularly the RTX 5090, are priced far beyond what most PC gamers would consider reasonable.

This brings us to the new AMD X3D range, which, despite being one of the best CPUs for gaming, contributes to the high MSRPs. That said, the specs are impressive enough to potentially boost frame rates beyond what I experienced with the Intel model in my Alienware Area-51 review. Even if I couldn’t afford one by selling my car, I understand why enthusiasts would be drawn to these rigs.

If you’re a high frame rate enthusiast who appreciates the Zeta-head logo, the Area-51 might be right up your alley. However, if you prefer a design that looks more futuristic, the Area-51 might feel a bit too conventional. The entire lineup is built with upgradability in mind, featuring a standard ATX motherboard and ample room for custom cooling and modifications, but it’s definitely more subdued compared to the egg-shaped Aurora R15 from a few years back.

Ultimately, if you’re into the sleek design of Dell’s 2026 models and are ready to invest in top-notch specs, the Area-51 could be worth considering. I’d love to suggest a more budget-friendly build, but if you’re set on an RTX 5090, you won’t find much savings with other brands.

Most of you will likely be leaning towards an RTX 5080 system, and by playing around with Dell’s customization options, you might find a way to make it a bit more affordable. I use that term loosely, as you’re still looking at around the $4,000 mark. For RTX 5070 options, I’d recommend checking out the Alienware Aurora R16 or exploring other builds that won’t hit your wallet as hard.
