God of War series embraces Ragnarok with new castings for Odin and Thor.

Prime Video’s upcoming God of War series has just announced two major casting additions for the roles of Odin and Thor, further expanding the universe of the acclaimed game, God of War: Ragnarok. Fans are likely to be excited about this casting, as it features two highly regarded actors stepping into these iconic roles.

Mandy Patinkin, widely recognized for his memorable performance as Inigo Montoya in the classic film The Princess Bride, will portray Odin, the king of the Aesir, or Norse gods. As the main antagonist in God of War: Ragnarok, Odin is on a quest to find a way to endure the end of reality and its eventual rebirth during the cataclysmic events of the game.

Joining him is Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for his chilling role as Mr. Drummond in Severance, who will take on the character of Thor in the series. This version of the god of thunder will differ significantly from Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal in the MCU, aligning more closely with his depiction in Norse mythology. Thor serves as a key antagonist in God of War: Ragnarok, being the father and brother of gods that Kratos and Atreus have previously defeated.

The murder of Thor’s beloved brother by Kratos and Atreus serves as the catalyst for the events of Ragnarok, mirroring elements of Norse mythology where Loki’s slaying of Baldur sets off a chain reaction. This act brings down the wrath of Odin and the other Aesir. Interestingly, Ryan Hurst, who voiced Thor in the game, has been cast as Kratos for the series.

As of now, the premiere date for the God of War series has yet to be announced.
