World of Warcraft to Introduce 5v5 Prop Hunt Mode Inspired by Garry’s Mod

The legacy of Garry’s Mod is still going strong, especially with the countless players enjoying it in 2026. The Prop Hunt mode that made this iconic sandbox game famous has influenced a variety of titles, from Fortnite to Genshin Impact, and now World of Warcraft is joining the fray. Blizzard’s MMO is set to introduce its own version of Prop Hunt this year.

In WoW, this mode will be known as Decor Duel. During the recent State of Azeroth broadcast, director Ion Hazzikostas openly referred to it as a “Prop Hunt-inspired event.” It will be included in patch 12.0.5, which is expected to arrive on the PTR shortly after the launch of Midnight.

Described as “a small diversion,” Decor Duel will have players queuing up to join a team of five, competing against another team in locations like Silvermoon City or the neighborhoods of the Alliance and Horde. One team will use enchantments and illusions to cleverly disguise themselves as everyday props, while the other team will attempt to find them.

This setup certainly echoes the essence of Prop Hunt. While the mode has roots in the early days of online gaming mods, Garry’s Mod’s version is the one that truly resonated with players. The thrill of hiding as a piece of furniture and waiting for the chaos to unfold is undeniably appealing, which explains why it continues to inspire major games today.

World of Warcraft has a history of embracing quirky side activities, as seen with its 60-player pirate battle royale mode. The real question now is what creative ideas might come next. Could we see a social deduction twist like Among Us? An extraction mode? Anything would be a refreshing change from the usual high-stakes gameplay WoW players are accustomed to.
