Wonder Man’s Showrunner Hints at Simon Williams’ Mutant Status, But Remains Tight-Lipped

With a new X-Men film on the horizon and characters like Kamala Khan and She-Hulk’s Mister Immortal displaying their distinct abilities, it seems mutants are gradually stepping into the spotlight within the MCU. But what about Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams, and his hidden powers?

“It’s a very good question, and it’s one we discussed. It’s one we decided we weren’t going to answer,” Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest shared. “I’ll leave it up to the people who make those kinds of mutant questions,” he added, hinting that he has his own thoughts on the matter, even if they don’t make it to the screen.

Fans can certainly read between the lines here. After all, Simon’s childhood incident that led to a house fire feels like the kind of origin story you’d find in X-Men comics.

That said, Wonder Man embraces the more bizarre and fantastical aspects of the MCU. DeMar Davis (known as Doorman) took center stage in the fourth episode of the Disney+ series, showcasing his void-like powers, which appear to stem from an encounter with the Darkforce Dimension—similar to the abilities of Cloak from Cloak and Dagger.

Meanwhile, the X-Men are officially being integrated into the MCU with a film directed by Jake Schreier, known for Thunderbolts. Casting details are still under wraps, likely due to the numerous legacy actors from the Fox X-Men films—like Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and James Marsden—who are expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
