Rumors Suggest a Wave of Switch 2 Ports on the Horizon Following New Nintendo Direct
The gaming community is buzzing about an upcoming Nintendo Direct set to kick off February. This event is expected to be a Partner Showcase, so while we might not see any major surprises like a new 3D Mario title, we can anticipate a solid lineup of new Switch 2 ports to help fill out the first half of the year.
Nintendo typically uses its February showcase to give fans a sneak peek at upcoming releases and to fill in the calendar. Insiders have indicated that 2026 will follow this trend, with the event being a Partner Showcase instead of a full first-party Direct. Reports suggest we can expect this Nintendo Direct to take place around February 3-5.
So, what can we expect from Nintendo? We’re still waiting on confirmed release dates for titles like Elden Ring and Borderlands 4 on Switch 2, with the latter rumored to arrive by the end of February. There’s also been a lot of chatter about Monster Hunter Wilds making its way to the new console, along with the port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth potentially arriving sooner than anticipated. Other titles like Metaphor: Refantazio, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Final Fantasy XVI could also make an appearance.
I’m particularly interested in the apparent lack of Microsoft support for the Switch 2. There are rumors of a Call of Duty title coming to the platform this spring, but there’s been no confirmation regarding a Halo: Combat Evolved remake for Switch 2. Additionally, there are plenty of other titles that could easily make the jump, such as Sea of Thieves, Diablo 4, and Avowed, which is set to launch on PS5 next month. It would be great if Starfield were also part of the rumored plans for a Switch 2 port.
It would be exciting to see announcements for new games as well. We know FromSoftware’s multiplayer action game Duskblood is on the way this year. It’ll be intriguing to see if any other major studios unveil exclusive projects for the Nintendo platform. However, in this era where most games are available across multiple devices, it seems more likely we’ll see a wave of new AAA ports instead.
