Cyberpunk 2 Will Stick to First-Person Perspective for Enhanced Immersion, Says Lead Developer

Don’t expect Cyberpunk 2 to suddenly include elaborate cinematic cutscenes or switch to a third-person perspective, as creative director Igor Sarzyński favors the immersive experience of first-person cutscenes.

On Bluesky, Sarzyński shared some screenshots from the development of the first game’s Phantom Liberty expansion, noting, “I have to admit, setting up cutscenes in this game would be incredibly enjoyable (because everything looks mind-blowingly amazing), but ultimately, I value our uninterrupted immersion more.”

However, one user expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that sticking to first-person limits gamers who prefer third-person views, and they disagree with the notion that experiencing the world through a character’s eyes is essential for immersion. Sarzyński responded by stating, “when something is for everyone, then it’s for no one,” while also acknowledging, “it’s OK to not vibe with our choices!”

He further explained that transitioning the game to third-person isn’t a straightforward decision, saying, “That simple ‘choice’ in terms of narrative/scene design and direction would add 75% scope.” He emphasized that it’s “not feasible.”

Of course, if you’re on PC, there are ways around this. Currently, there’s a work-in-progress third-person mod for Cyberpunk 2077 that first appeared in January 2021—less than a month after the game’s original release, when it was still facing significant issues. Given the community’s dedication to such projects, it wouldn’t be surprising if the sequel receives its own mod shortly after launch.
